ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
Lindsay Cunningham continued her championship streak at the 2022 Lewis University Crossover, running to a first-place time of 20:50.12 while Warrior teammate
McKenna Taylor took third with a time of 21:13.33.
Cunningham and Taylor paced the Winona State women's team to a third-place finish overall, with the squad scoring 113 points, just behind NSIC foe Minnesota Duluth with 104. Colorado Christian University won the women's division with a score of 77.
Overall, in the women's division, Winona State had three top-15 individuals with
Kaylee Beyer earning an 11
th place finish at 22:06.71.
Sophia Taarud ran a time of 22:43.99 and
Mara Talabac came in at 23:24.58 to round out the top five finishers for WSU. For Cunningham, the individual championship marked the fifth-consecutive regular season win for the sophomore from Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
In the men's division, Winona State finished 14
th overall with a team score of 465. Colorado Christian claimed the men's team championship with an overall score of 47.
The fastest finisher for Winona State was
Mitchell Johnstone, running a time of 25:45.36 to crack the top 100 at 95
th place.
Andrew Metcalf was close to Johnston, finishing at 25:51.32 (102
nd) while
Connor Hallaway (26:22.94 | 132
nd),
Mitchell Buerkle (26:24.62 | 135
th), and
Tyler Merrell (26:42.49 | 145th) rounded out the top five competitors for Winona State and head coach
John Hibshman.
The Winona State women's team entered the race ranked 16
th in the NCAA Division II, while Minnesota Duluth was 13
th, Colorado Christian 14
th, and host Lewis University was 15
th.
Both the Winona State men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 21 at the Waxlax Invitational, hosted by St. Cloud State University.
