Winona State women's basketball opens Wurtz era with a 64-46 win over Puerto Rico Mayaguez

Box Score MAYAGUEZ, P.R. - The Winona State University women's basketball team opened the Ana Wurtz era with a win, defeating the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez, 64-46. 

Winona State led 42-26 at the half and the victory marks the second consecutive year the Warriors started the season with a win. In 2021, WSU defeated Quincy University 66-50 to begin a four-game winning streak to open the 2021-22 campaign. 

Wurtz and Winona State will look to double-up their win total today when they take on the University of West Alabama at 3 p.m. AST, 1 p.m. CST.  West Alabama beat Puerto Rico Bayamon, 64-58 on Friday.  UWA was 15-13 in 2021-22, and 9-10 in Gulf State Conference play.
