Box Score PUERTO RICO – The Winona State University women's basketball team concluded action on their Puerto Rico trip with a 62-54 victory over the University of Puerto Rico – Bayamon.
The Warriors will fly back home after completing a three-game sweep on opening weekend of the regular season in Puerto Rico.
Winona State jumped out to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter against Puerto Rico – Bayamon, which turned out to be enough to hold onto the 62-54 victory.
URP-Bayamon made a second-quarter push, but WSU stayed ahead going into halftime with a 31-29 lead. The scored remained a two-point game in Winona State's favor after the third quarter, and an 18-12 final frame gave the Warriors the win.
Kaitlyn Schrimpf led the WSU scoring effort with 14 points on 5-8 shooting, including 3-6 from deep.
Alex Dornfeld added 11 more points on 5-7 shooting from inside the arc and added 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
Caitlin Riley added three three-pointers to score nine points and
Lauren Fech tallied eight points and four assists.
The Warriors shot 43.6% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc to propel an efficient offensive effort.
Winona State will be in action next at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classis hosted by Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. on Nov. 18-19.
