WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University women's basketball team returns to NSIC action on Thursday, Dec. 1 as WSU hosts Minnesota State - Mankato at 5:30 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court. 

Winona State is off to a 7-0 start on the season and are 1-0 in NSIC action, and defeated Viterbo University 75-46 on Monday, while Minnesota State enters the week unbeaten at 5-0 and ranked No. 6 in the WBCA Coaches Poll. The battle of the unbeaten teams marks a key early-season NSIC South match up in the 2022-23 campaign.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES

• WSU is 7-0 on the season and ranked No. 6 in the current D2SIDA Central Region Poll. 
• Alex Dornfeld has had double-digit rebounding performances in three of her past four games.
• Dornfeld also has hit double-digits in scoring three times sinces Nov. 10, including 24 points versus Quincy University on Nov. 22. 
• Caitlin Riley has notched a pair of impressive 3-point shooing outings this season; 4-of-4 against UIU and 3-of-5 versus McKendree. 
• WSU moved to 5-0 in their last five meetings with Viterbo with the win earlier this week.  
• Winona State dropped both games against MSU Mankato last year, losing 76-67 at home and 78-55 in Mankato.
• The 2022-23 season marks the first year as a head coach for Ana Wurtz. The WSU Hall of Fame guard was a long-time associate head coach under Scott Ballard. 

Minnesota State - Mankato STORYLINES

• MSU-Mankato started the season 5-0 and are tied for first in the NSIC North with WSU, Augustana and SMSU.
• The Mavericks are ranked No. 6 in the nation and second in the Central Region poll. 
• Joey Batt leads the Mavericks with a 17.2 ppg average. 
• Natalie Bremer adds on 12.8 points/game for Minnesota State. 
• Molly Ihle leads the team in rebounding, with a 5.6 rpg mark. 
• MSU-Mankato averages 83.4 points per outing and holds opponents to 56.6 ppg. 
• Head coach Emilee Thiesse has been in charge of the Mavericks since 2012.

WARRIOR NOTABLES 

• The Warriors were selected 11th overall and 5th in the NSIC South by coaches around the league.
• Head coach Ana Wurtz and assistant coach Hannah McGlone are the only all-female coaching staff in the NSIC that also competed at their alma mater as student-athletes.
• The Warriors' 7-0 start is the best opening stretch of games since the 2015-16 season, where WSU started 13-0.
