Winona State women's tennis dominates Minnesota Crookston to complete weekend road sweep

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Winona State University women's tennis team defeated Minnesota Crookston in dominant fashion to complete a weekend sweep on the road and improve to 3-1 in NSIC play. WSU swept both doubles and singles play en route to winning the match 7-0.

The Warriors began the day sweeping the doubles matches to earn the doubles point and go up 1-0 over the Golden Eagles. Beth Murman and Sara Anderson took care of business at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-0. Rina Niehoff and Rachel Kelly followed suit at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for WSU. Brooke Holloway and Chloe Pecarich rounded out the Winona State doubles success at No. 3 doubles as they downed their opponents 6-3.

Singles play was no different, as the Warriors took care of business winning all six singles matches over Minnesota Crookston. Anderson cruised to a victory at the fourth singles position and did not drop a single game, winning 6-0. 6-0. Murman earned a convincing win at No. 2 singles, taking her match 6-2, 6-0. Niehoff clinched the victory for the Warriors after winning the third singles match 6-4, 6-0 to give WSU their fourth team point.

The success continued even after the match was secured in favor of Winona State as Kelly battled in the closest match of the day at No. 1 singles. After winning the first set 6-4, Kelly dropped the second 2-6, but bounced back to win the super tiebreaker, 10-5, to earn another Warriors point. Holloway followed up with a straight-set victory at five singles, and Mikayla Hanson rounded off the WSU sweep, winning at six singles 6-1, 7-5.
 
Winona State (4-2, 3-1 NSIC) will now turn their attention to next weekend, when they face Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Feb. 25 and then Minnesota State and Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Feb. 26. All three matches will be played on the campus Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn.
