ST. PETER, Minn. – The Winona State women's tennis team earned their third-straight NSIC victory with a 6-1 win over Southwest Minnesota State University this evening.
The Warriors were able to capture the doubles point, once again, after winning at each doubles position.
Rachel Kelly and
Rina Niehoff worked swiftly at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-1.
Beth Murman and
Sara Anderson were able to pull out a 6-4 victory at second doubles to clinch the 1-0 lead for WSU.
Brooke Holloway and
Brooke Jorgensen completed the sweep, winning 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
WSU rode their momentum right into the singles lineup, where Jorgensen took care of business at No. 6 singles, dropping just one game total. Anderson won her match in convincing fashion as well, earning the victory at fourth singles. Murman clinched the match for the Warriors, winning at second singles to give WSU their fourth point of the match. Kelly and Niehoff each won their matches in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Holloway dropped the fifth singles match, but the Warriors rolled to a 6-1 team victory.
Winona State is now 4-1 in the NSIC and will have two matches tomorrow at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn. WSU will face off against Minnesota State at 9am and then Gustavus Adolphus at 1pm.
