WSU men's golf ties for third at NSIC Preview Invitational

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The Winona State University men's golf team tied for third at the NSIC Preview Invitational, a two-day tournament held in Blue Springs, Mo.

The Warriors carded a two-round score of 698 (+22) after scores of 297 (+9) and 301 (+13) on each day to earn a third-place tie out of 18 teams with Drury University. Rogers State University won the event with a total score of 580 (+4), while Rockhurst edged out Drury and WSU with a 597 (+21).

Brady Holland led all Warriors with an impressive two-day total of 145 (+1). Holland finished the first day with an even-par 72, then carded a one-over 73 today to finish tied for fourth overall and earn the top finish out of all Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference golfers.

Abraham Elmore shot a three-over par, 75, on each day to finish the tournament with a 150, which was good for a top-15 finish overall out of the 112 golfers.

Matt Turner was just one stroke behind Elmore, finishing with a seven-over 151 on the two days. Turner turned in scores of 76 and 75 each day to finish inside the top-20 individually.

Dylan Brown and Matthew Chandler rounded out the team scoring for Winona State. Brown shot identical scores of 78 on each day to finish with a 156 and Chandler carded a 74 (+2) on the first day but shot an 86 on day two to finish with a 160.

Golfing as an individual in the tournament, Bennett Thomas earned a sixth-place finish after shooting a one-over par, 73, each day to finish the tournament with a 145 (+2). Gabe Goodman earned a top-20 finish after shooting a 73 and 78 on each day to card a 151 for the tournament. Markus Iwerbo rounded out the individuals for WSU with a 167 (85, 82).

Winona State finished nine strokes clear of the next NSIC team in an event that featured all 10 NSIC programs.

The Warriors will be in action next at the Mules Invitational hosted by the University of Central Missouri on April 4-5 in Warrensburg, Mo.
