LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Winona State University men's golf team teed off their 2022 championship season with a fourth-place finish at the Warrior Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev.
WSU shot a two-day total of 607 (313-294) to earn fourth place in a field of 16 teams. The Warriors turned in a team score of 294 on the second day to climb the leaderboard after being tied for 10th after the first round. McKendree University, Northeastern State, and Washburn all tied for first with a team score of 598.
Dylan Brown led Winona State with a two-round total of 148 (76-72) and finished tied for sixth.
Matthew Chandler shot an 80 (+8) on day one but rebounded nicely with an even-par 72 on the second day to finish tied for 24th.
Brady Holland finished tied for 31st with a 153 (79-74).
Abraham Elmore shot a 155 (78-77) and
Gabe Goodman shot a 156 (80-76) to round out scoring for the Warriors.
Winona State fielded a second team in the tournament as well, and they finished tied for eighth with a 616 (308-308).
Bennett Thomas and
Matt Turner highlighted the scoring for WSU, as Thomas finished fourth overall with a two-over 146 (69-77) and Turner tied for sixth with a four-over 148 (76-72).
The Warriors led all teams in birdies during the two-day event, totaling 34 birdies throughout the two rounds, and Thomas led the field individually with nine total birdies.
WSU will be in action next at The Legacy Invitational on March 10-11 in Henderson, Nev. The two-day tournament will be the final event for the Warriors during their spring break trip.
