All-Region honors for Winona State track and field

NEW ORLEANS - All Region honors for the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field season were announced on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the regular season.  Six Winona State student-athletes, competing across six different events, earned All-Region honors for their outstanding performances. 

The WSU 4 X 400 relay team of Kendall Zeman, Brooklyn Schyvinck, Maddy Pietz and Shereen Vallabouy took home All-Region honors, following a 2022 outdoor season in which the group won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championship with a time of 3:53.32.  The Warrior relay team qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field championships, finishing in 12th place overall with a time of 3:47.99. 

In individual events, Kaylee Beyer was awarded All-Region honors in the 1500 meters after a record-breaking season of competition for Winona State. In 2022, Beyer set the all-time best Winona State 1,500 meter and 800-meter times in program history and competed in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division II championships where she finished sixth with a time of 4:22.26. 

Lindsay Cunningham doubled up on NCAA All-Region honors, taking home the award in both the 5000-meter race and the 10,000 meters.  Cunningham cruised to an NSIC Championships record in the 10,000 meters, battling tough conditions at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota to best the filed with a time of 34:09.57.  Cunningham beat the old record of 34:12.43 set in 2018.  In the 5000 meters, Cunningham enjoyed a 2022 outdoor season in which she won the event at the prestigious Drake Relays, turning in a personal-best time of 16:05.36 and setting a new Winona State record in the event. Cunningham finished fourth in the country in the 5000 at the 2022 NCAA outdoor championships. 

Also claiming multiple honors on the year was Shereen Vallabouy, a standout sprinter who earned USTFCCA honors in both the 200 meters and 400 meters, in addition to her placement with the Warrior 4 X 400 relay team.  Vallabouy was the national champion in the 400 meters, finishing first in the field of the nation's best at the 2022 NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships. Vallabouy ran a program-record 52.68 time to win the 400 -meters, after also winning the 400-meter race in the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. In the 200 meters, Vallabouy set a new WSU record of 23.52 at the Deb Schultz Open on May 6, marking one of the most impressive seasons in Winona State track & field history.

The organization has about 8,000 members. Over 94% of NCAA track & field programs are members of USTFCCCA.

The group serves as an advocate for coaches, providing a national forum to address their needs. It also serves as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sport.
