KEARNEY, Neb. The Winona State University women's soccer team concluded their weekend trip to Nebraska with a 4-2 victory over East Central University.
In an even game statistically, WSU was able to take advantage of their opportunities by scoring four goals on 10 shots on goal.
Chloe Swanson was strong in net for the Warriors, allowing just two goals on eight shots on goal by East Central.
Ashley Hewitt got the party started with a goal in the 15th minute of the game, from an assist by
Sarah Strating. The game went into halftime with the Warriors holding a 1-0 lead, but Winona State was able to add two more goals in the first five minutes of the second half to build a commanding 3-0 lead.
Riley Harmon scored a goal 20 seconds into the half and just four minutes later, Hewitt netted her second goal of the game on an assist from
Madisson Watts.
East Central scored just minutes later, but
Abigail Williams answered back with her second goal of the season to give the Warriors a three-goal lead with less than 15 minutes remaining. ECUO added their second goal of the game in the final two minutes, but WSU cruised to a 4-2 victory to wrap up a 2-0 road trip to Nebraska.
Matt Kellogg and his Warriors (2-0-0 / 0-0-0) will wrap up their nonconference schedule with a scrimmage at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Aug. 31 and a match at University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday, Sept. 4 in Kenosha, Wis.
