SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Winona State University volleyball team dropped their final match of the NSIC opening weekend to the University of Sioux Falls, 0-3.
The Warriors were unable to grab a set of the Cougars as USF won the match with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-16. WSU drops to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC, while Sioux Falls moves to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the young NSIC season.
Winona State was held to a .105 hitting percentage on the day, while Sioux Falls connected on 46 kills out of 104 attempts and hit .356.
The first set was neck-and-neck until the midway point when USF rattled off 13 of the last 17 points to win the opening set 25-17. The Warriors fell behind early in the second set as the Cougars knocked down 18 kills on 33 attempts to control the second set with a 25-13 victory. Sioux Falls won the final set 25-16 to hand Winona State their second-consecutive loss.
Sidney Paulson and
Madison Larson led the way for WSU with nine and seven kills, respectfully.
Rayliene Joens and
Taylor Pagel added six and five kills to the Warrior effort.
Jaci Winchell dished out 22 assists and added eight digs.
Casey Volkmann collected 11 digs to pace Winona State.
The Warriors will be in action next weekend, when they host #24 Augustana and #5 Wayne State on Sept. 16 and 17 for the WSU home opener at McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
