NSIC Weekend: Men's Basketball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's basketball team is on the road for the second-consecutive weekend as they head to Minot State on Friday, Jan. 20 and University of Mary on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip-off on Friday is scheduled for 5:30pm against the Beavers, while Saturday's contest against the Marauders will begin at 3:30pm.

Winona State heads into the weekend with a 10-7 record, including being 5-7 within the NSIC. Last weekend, WSU dropped a close contest at St. Cloud State and bounced back for a win over (RV) Minnesota Duluth.

  • Friday's contest will take place in the Minot State Dome in Minot, N.D., while Saturday's game will be in the McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck, N.D.
WINONA STATE STORYLINES
  • The Warriors hold a 10-7 record overall and are 5-7 in the NSIC heading into the weekend.
  • WSU scores an average of 70.1 points/game and holds a 1.9 scoring margin.
  • Winona State has the third best scoring defense in the conference, holding opponents to 0.426 shooting and just 68.2 points/game.

  • Khari Broadway leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game.
  • Cam'ron Dunfee (12.1 ppg) and Jaxon Gunville (10.9 ppg) also score in double figures.
  • Connor Hollenbech grabs 6.3 rebounds/game to lead Minot State.
  • The Beavers are 2-2 against NSIC South teams during the North-South crossover portion of the conference schedule.
  • Matt Murken is in his 11th season as the Beavers head coach.
University of Mary STORYLINES
  • The Marauders are 8-8 overall and 4-8 within the NSIC heading into the weekend.
  • UMary averages 72.1 points per game on the offensive end and allows 72.3 points/game on the defensive side of the ball.
  • As a team, the Marauders average 15.25 assists/game which is second in the NSIC.
  • Three players average double figures, with Kam Warrens leading the way at 13.3 ppg. Warrens also pulls in a team-high 5.8 boards/game.
  • Zyon Smith scores 11.8 points/game and Treyton Mattern averages 10.9 points each game.
  • UMary is 1-3 against NSIC South teams in the first two weekends of crossover play.
  • Jack Nelson is in his second year at the helm for the Marauders.
