NSIC Weekend : Soccer

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University soccer team heads west for a long road trip and their final away weekend of the season, taking on a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foes. Winona State will be looking to pick up points on a two-match road stand, facing off with Minot State University on Friday, Oct. 20 and the University of Mary on Sunday, Oct. 22. 

Winona State will be working to snap a four-match non-win streak, having earned a point in a 1-1 draw against Minnesota State - Mankato but suffering one-goal setbacks to Bemidji State, Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. 
 
Winona State has a win, a loss and a draw in their last three outings against Minot State and has the same series history against UMary over the last trio of games between the two sides. In 2022, WSU had 1-1 tie with the Beavers at home and a nil-nil match against the Marauders.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES 

WSU has earned points in every match in which they have scored two or more goals this year. 

The same two-goal tally stands true in the 2022 season; WSU scored two or more goals in all but one of their 2022 victories. 
 
Johanna Shubert leads with in goals (4), points (8) and is tied for the lead in shots (29). 

Grace Seim is tied with Shubert for tops in shots, also with 29. 

Three Warrior field players, Callie Menzel, Reanne Weil and Hannah Dunlavy, have eclipsed the 1,000 minute played mark this season. 

Goalkeeper Alyson Jumper has been a part of four shutouts this season, including three in which she went the full 90. 

WSU returns a trio of key attacking players who factored heavily in goal production last fall; Reanne WeilMadelynn Drasher, and Abigail Williams look to lead the Warriors.

Winona State was picked tenth in the NSIC Coaches poll  

Head coach Jill Leibforth is in her first year as head coach at Winona State.  

WSU assistant coach Joe Davis will join for his second year as an assistant coach and first year under Jill Leibforth

Minot State STORYLINES

Minot State is 5-7-1 overall and 2-6-1 in NSIC play.
MSU has gone 1-1 in their most recent two matches. 
Illiana Rivera has five points, 16 shots and 2 goals for the Beavers. 
Yossi Villagrana also has a pair of goals for MSU.
Siriana Gudino has 11 starts in goal for Minot State and has given up just 12 goals against.  
T. J. Perez enters his second season at the helm of the Minot State soccer program in the fall of 2023. 

UMary STORYLINES

UMary heads into the weekend at 4-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the NSIC.
The Marauders are on a two-match win streak.
MaLiah Burke has three goals and on assist for UMary.
Mo Malone has four assists on the season for the Marauders. 
Molly Fischer has played every minute in goal for University of Mary this season, with five clean sheets and a 1.08 GAA.
Sarah Cook has been the head coach at UMary since 2012.
