Warrior Game Day : Soccer

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University soccer team hosts the University of Sioux Falls in an NSIC showdown on Friday, Oct. 6 with kickoff at 5 p.m. in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Winona State (2-4-3, 1-3-2 NSIC) will be looking to move up the NSIC standings in their tilt against the University of Sioux Falls (1-5-2, 1-2-2 NSIC) and add to the 7-3 Warrior advantage in contests between the two squads dating back to Oct. 7, 2012. 

Most recently, the Warriors earned a split in an NSIC weekend last week, beating the University of Minnesota Crookston 4-0 but falling to nationally-ranked Bemidji State, 2-1 in a hard-fought contest.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES 

Winona State holds a 7-3 record from 2012 to present against the Cougars.

The Warriors won 1-0 in their match-up last Sept. in Sioux Falls. The only goal of the game was scored by Jaida Wiege in the 73rd minute of the game.

Winona State fell to USF in their 2021 match-up in Winona 2-0. Both goals that were scored were in the second half of the game.

WSU has earned shutouts in two of their three matches this year.

WSU returns a trio of key attacking players who factored heavily in goal production last fall; Reanne Weil, Madelynn Drasher, and Abigail Williams look to lead the Warriors.

Last season, the Warriors played in ten, one-goal games.

WSU will be led by seniors Madyson Dye, Reanne Weil, Sara Charboneau, Morgan Liebau, Hannah Dunlavy, and Caylee Ludwig.

Winona State was picked tenth in the NSIC Coaches poll

Head coach Jill Leibforth is in her first year as head coach at Winona State. WSU assistant coach Joe Davis will join for his second year as an assistant coach and first year under Jill Leibforth.

Goalkeeper coach Ben Olson joined the Warrior staff this fall.

University of Sioux Falls STORYLINES

University of Sioux Falls has amassed a 1-5-2 overall mark and 1-2-2 record in the NSIC
The Cougars last win was a 3-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Sep. 24.
The USF most recent non-loss was a 1-1 tie against Northern State on Oct. 1.
Sarah Miller leads the Cougars with two goals scored on the year. 
USF has had two keepers in goal at different times; Delani Daubman (4 GP, 3 GS) and Caroline Titze (5 GP, 5 GS) share the Cougar net.
