Warrior Game Day: Softball

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Winona State University softball team will travel to Concordia-St. Paul for a mid-week NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday, April 12. Games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Carlander Field in St. Paul, Minn.
 
The Warriors are riding a six-game win streak into the matchup and are tied atop the NSIC standings with a 9-1 conference record.
 
Winona State Storylines
The Warriors are 26-9 overall and 9-1 in the NSIC.
WSU enters play with CSP having won the last 15 matchups, including an 8-7 victory over the Golden Bears in the NSIC Tournament last season.
Savannah Serdynski leads the Warriors in batting average (.395) and on-base percentage (.469)
Abbie Hlas leads the NSIC in hits (48) and at-bats (130).
Carly Engelhardt leads Winona State in OPS (1.102), slugging percentage (.655), and home runs (8).
Abby Smith is first in the league with 12 wins and holds a 1.78 ERA, good for fourth in the NSIC.
In the circle, Abby Smith is 12-3 on the year and Abbie Hlas is 11-4.

Concordia-St. Paul Storylines
The Golden Bears are 19-18 overall and 5-7 in league play.
Annalise Scamerhorn leads CSP with a .301 batting average.
Grace Beseman has a team-high 35 hits and 10 doubles on 120 at bats.
Clara Heislen has eight home runs and eight doubles on the season.
CSP has thrown three pitchers in the circle all season. Bryanna Olson has 23 appearances while Erica McCullough and Kristi Pilz have 17 appearances each.
McCullough leads the team in ERA at 3.47 and Olson leads CSP with 11 wins.


WARRIOR NOTABLES
Winona State standout Abbie Hlas was named the 2023 NSIC Preseason Player-of-the-Year by coaches around the league. 
Head coach Greg Jones entered the 2023 NCAA Division II season 13th among active coaches in victories (891) and seventh in winning percentage (.747) and reached the 900-career win milestone at The Spring Games in March.
Winona State has made 15 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances as a program, all with Jones at the helm.
