NSIC Weekend : Warrior Softball

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team is set to host a pair of NSIC opponents to wrap up the 2023 regular season on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, and will honor their Warrior seniors on Saturday's doubleheader against Minnesota State Moorhead. 

The MSUM series looms large for Winona State, not only for the Senior Day festivities, but in the fact that the Dragons and Warriors enter Saturday tied for third-place in the NSIC standings. Winona State will host Northern State on Sunday as the Warriors wrap up the regular season against the Wolves.  Both doubleheaders will be covered on the radio by KQAL; Cooper Lipski will have the call for the Warriors. 
 
Winona State Storylines, entering the weekend...
The Warriors are 33-14 overall and 16-6 in the NSIC.
Abbie Hlas leads the Warriors in batting average (.398) and is tops in the NSIC in both hits (70) and at-bats (176)
In the NSIC home run race, Libby Neveau is tied for second in the league and Carly Engelhardt is fourth, with 12 and 11 homers, respectively. 
Abby Smith is 16-5 on the year in the Warrior circle, tied for the second-most victories in the league.
As a pitcher, Abbie Hlas is 12-6 overall.
Winona State will honor their seniors on Saturday against MSUM

Minnesota State Moorhead Storylines, entering the weekend...
The Dragons are 28-12 overall and 16-6 in league play.
Mack Gallagher leads MSUM with a .435 batting average.
Gallagher has a team-high 57 hits in 131 at-bats.
Azalya Lopez has 12 doubles on the season for MSUM
The Dragon's lineup includes pitcher Evey Evans who is 6-3 overall in 25 appearances. 

Northern State Storylines, entering the weekend...
The Wolves are 14-30 overall and 8-16 in league play.
Kyra Knudtson leads Northern State with a .318 batting average.
Tevan Bryant has a team-high four home runs on the year.
Claire Zbylut has 20 RBI for the Wolves on the year. 
NSU's top pitcher is Lexi Chase at 4-6 overall. 

WARRIOR NOTABLES
Abby Smith threw her first career no-hitter earlier this season in a win over Concordia St. Paul. 
Winona State standout Abbie Hlas was named the 2023 NSIC Preseason Player-of-the-Year by coaches around the league. 
Head coach Greg Jones entered the 2023 NCAA Division II season 13th among active coaches in victories (891) and seventh in winning percentage (.747) and reached the 900-career win milestone at The Spring Games in March.
Winona State has made 15 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances as a program, all with Jones at the helm.
