NSIC Weekend: Softball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University softball team will host a pair of NSIC softball doubleheaders on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
 
The Warriors will battle Bemidji State on Friday beginning at 1pm and then host Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at noon. Both doubleheaders will take place at Alumni Field in Winona, Minn.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES
The Warriors are 22-9 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC.
WSU enters play with Bemidji State having won the last 11 contests and the Warriors have been victorious in all 19 games against Minnesota Crookston dating back to 2011.
Savannah Serdynski leads the Warriors in batting average (.388)
Abbie Hlas leads the NSIC in hits (44) and at-bats (116).
Carly Engelhardt leads Winona State in OPS (1.109), slugging percentage (.643), and home runs (6).
Marissa Mullen leads WSU in on-base percentage (.477).
In the circle, Abby Smith is 11-3 on the year and Abbie Hlas is 9-4.

Bemidji State Storylines
BSU is 12-12 overall on the season and 1-1 in NSIC games.
The Beavers are led at the plate by Mariah Stevenson who is hitting .377 on the year with a 1.007 OPS and .565 slugging percentage.
Ashley Herold leads BSU with nine doubles.
Alexa Christianson is 5-for-5 on stolen bases this season.
Stella Dolan and Kyla Damerow have been in the circle the most for BSU. Dolan is 8-5 with a 3.58 ERA while Damerow is 3-7 with a 4.40 ERA.

Minnesota Crookston Storylines
UMC is 13-16 with a 1-3 NSIC record this season.
Minnesota Crookston split a series against Northern State their last time on the diamond.
Alina Avalos is hitting .422 to lead the Golden Eagles at the plate.
Dana Zarn has hit four home runs and seven doubles to lead UMC with a .644 slugging percentage.
Five different Minnesota Crookston pitchers have appeared in at least 10 games, with Thayda Houser holding a 6-2 record on a 3.96 ERA.

WARRIOR NOTABLES
Winona State standout Abbie Hlas was named the 2023 NSIC Preseason Player-of-the-Year by coaches around the league. 
Head coach Greg Jones entered the 2023 NCAA Division II season 13th among active coaches in victories (891) and seventh in winning percentage (.747) and reached the 900-career win milestone at The Spring Games in March.
Winona State has made 15 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances as a program, all with Jones at the helm.
