WINONA, Minn. - Winona State University's 
Lindsay Cunningham has been awarded by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) as the NSIC Track Athlete of the Year award. A native from Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Cunningham excels in both Track & Field and Cross Country, and consistently sets WSU program and NSIC records.
Cunningham set WSU indoor records in the 
3,000 meter and the 5,000-meter run and ran the fourth-fastest indoor mile time ever. She is also the NSIC Outdoor 10,000 meter 
all-time record holder and the NSIC Outdoor 5,000-meter 
all-time record holder. She won the 5,000-meter  at the race at the prestigious Drake Relays, becoming the first NCAA Division II winner of the event since 1980.
Cunningham has been the individual champion in all four regular season meets entered and was the individual champion of the 2021 NCAA Division II Central Region for cross country.
She finished seventh overall at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships and was also named NSIC Athlete of the Week three times.

The NSIC is a 16-team, 18-sport, NCAA Division II conference with institutions located in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The NSIC is a model Division II conference that uses high-level athletics competition to develop champions in the classroom and community while empowering student-athletes to be impactful and positive leaders. Formed in 1992 by the merger of the Northern Intercollegiate Conference (men's league) and the Northern Sun Conference (women's league), the NSIC has flourished over the past quarter century, maturing into a 16-team union of Upper Midwest colleges and universities.
