WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University track and field team has earned prestigious academic honors following an outstanding 2022-23 season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday, July 13.
The Winona State program earned status as an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team following a season in which the Warriors finished fifth in the nation in the NCAA Division II indoor season and fourth overall in the NCAA Division II outdoor campaign. Both marks represent the historical best finishes for the program. WSU saw several long-standing program records fall during the indoor and outdoor seasons, while seven different student-athletes qualified for NCAA Division II Championships over the course of both seasons.
To be named an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team, a program must have a cumulative GPA (not 2022-23 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA squad list for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, certifiable by the institution's registrar.
To be named an NCAA Division II All-Academic Athlete a nominee must have a grade point average of a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale through the end of the semester of competition. Athletes must have completed at least 24 semester hours/36 quarter hours through the end of the semester of competition at the institution. Also, the student-athlete must have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for either the indoor season or outdoor season.
