Warrior Weekend : Soccer

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University soccer team hits the road for their final away weekend of September in the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) schedule with a two-match road trip this weekend to Northern State University and Minnesota State - Moorhead.

Winona State will play the Wolves on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. before then heading on to Moorhead, Minn. for a match on Sunday, Sept. 24 against the Dragons. 
 
Winona State recently earned a 1-1 draw against Concordia University, St. Pau on Friday, Sept.15 before falling 2-1 at Augustana University on Sunday, Sep. 17.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES 

WSU has earned shutouts in two of their their three matches this year. 

WSU returns a trio of key attacking players who factored heavily in goal production last fall; Reanne WeilMadelynn Drasher, and Abigail Williams look to lead the Warriors. 

Last season, the Warriors played in ten, one-goal games.

Winona State was picked tenth in the NSIC Coaches poll  

Winona State is averaging one goal per game so far this year. 

Head coach Jill Leibforth is in her first year as head coach at Winona State.  

Winona State will play their first seven matches on the road to open 2023.  

WSU has a 24-6 all-time mark vs. CSP and is 12-10 all-time vs. Augustana.

WSU assistant coach Joe Davis will join for his second year as an assistant coach and first year under Jill Leibforth

Northern State STORYLINES

Northern State has amassed a 3-2 overall mark and 2-0 in the NSIC
NSU is generating just over eight shots per game this season
Megan Fastenau leads NSU with a pair of goals, one assist,
Fastenau also has seven shots, putting three on frame so far this year. 
Hannah Smith has one goal, six total shots, and three on frame. 
Kelsey Selden has a game-winning goal versus Minot State this season.
In goal, Alexus Townsend has 15 saves and three shutouts on the year.
Bob Casper enters his third season at the helm of the Northern State soccer program in the fall of 2023.
