Warrior Game Day: Soccer

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University soccer team opens up the home portion of the Warrior NSIC schedule, taking on the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Sep. 29 at 5 p.m..

Winona State (1-3-3, 0-2-2 NSIC) will be looking to break into the NSIC win column against Minnesota Crookston (0-7-0, 0-3-0 NSIC) as the two squads take the pitch at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium. 
 
The Warriors battled back to earn a 2-2 draw on the road at Minnesota State - Moorhead last Sunday, using a second-half Abigail Williams penalty kick goal and a timely breakaway save by Alyson Jumper in the game's final minute to preserve the point for WSU.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES 

Winona State owns a 24-0-2 mark over UMC, dating back to Oct. 9, 1999.

The Warriors have shut out the Golden Eagles in the past two outings, winning 6-0 (2021) and 3-0 (2002).

Winona State out shot the UMC 36-2 in last year's win. 

WSU has earned shutouts in two of their their three matches this year. 

WSU returns a trio of key attacking players who factored heavily in goal production last fall; Reanne WeilMadelynn Drasher, and Abigail Williams look to lead the Warriors. 

Last season, the Warriors played in ten, one-goal games.

University of Minnesota Crookston STORYLINES

University of Minnesota Crookston has amassed a 0-7-0 overall mark and 0-3-0 record in the NSIC
The Golden Eagles last win was a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa University on Oct. 7, 2022.
The UMC most recent non-loss was a 1-1 tie against Sioux Falls on Oct. 14, 2022. 
UMC  played three exhibition contests to open their 2023 season. 
Brooklyn Fischbach has both UMC goals this year. 
In goal, UMC has used goalkeeper Abby Olsen the most this year. Olsen has five starts in six appearances. 
Neil Mancktelow become the Golden Eagle head coach prior to the 2022 season.
