WSU PREPARES FOR NONCONFERENCE HOME OPENERS

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team is preparing for a non-conference weekend. They will face off against Maryville University on Friday, Nov 15, at 6:00 p.m. and Truman State on Saturday, Nov 16, at 3:00 p.m. WSU will host both teams this weekend at McCown Gymnasium.
 
Winona State's match-up against Maryville University on Friday, Nov 15, will be the fourth time that these teams have faced off, while the match-up against Truman State on Saturday, Nov 16, will be the third time that these teams have faced off.
 
Winona State Notes:
  • Last season, WSU finished 10-18 overall and 9-13 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
  • The Warriors enter the 2024 season ranked tenth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The 2024 campaign will feature 14 home games and 12 away games, Winona State finished 6-6 at home last season and 6-6 at home in 2022.
  • WSU's out-of-conference play this weekend will mark the first two home games of this season.
  • Vivica Bretton led the team in minutes at the GAC-NSIC Conference Challenge with a combined 69 minutes over two games. Bretton recorded 21 points over the weekend on 9-23 shooting from the field and 2-5 from beyond the three-point line.
  • Lindsey Hahn provided valuable minutes off the bench over the weekend with a combined 38. Hahn helped the rebounding effort with a combined 12.
  • Bretton also led the way on the glass with 15 over the weekend. Collecting 15 rebounds over the weekend brings her season average to 7.5 per game.
  • Avery Moeller gave a scoring boost coming off the bench for the Warriors during the GAC-NSIC Conference Challenge, shooting 2-5 from the field, 2-4 from beyond the three-point line, and 5-6 from the free throw line, recording 11 points over the weekend.
Maryville University:
  • Last season, Maryville finished 19-11 overall and 15-7 in Great Lake Valley Conference play.
  • Gracie Stugart is leading the team in minutes with an average of 36.5 per game.
  • Stugart is also leading the team in points with an average of 12.5 per game.
  • Faith Hawthorne is leading the team in rebounds with an average of 9.5 per game.
Truman State University:
  • Last season, Truman State finished 7-21 overall and 4-18 in Great Lake Valley Conference play.
  • Bryar Duwe and Jordan Cunningham are leading the team in minutes, both with an average of 33.5 per game.
  • Molly Joyce is leading the team in points with an average of 22.5 per game.
  • Duwe is also leading the team in rebounds with an average of 5.5 per game.
