Winona, Minn. - Luke Haertle scored a career-high 34 points to lead Winona State to a 90-78 nonconference victory over Michigan Tech.
All five WSU starters scored in double figures for the second straight game and Winona State went 9-20 from beyond the arc to outscore the Huskies in an offensive showdown.
How it Happened:
The Warriors and Huskies traded early runs with Michigan Tech leading by one at both the first two media timeouts of the game. A pair of Jones steals gave the Warriors a nine-point advantage with 3:52 left in the first. Tyler Mason and Haertle each had turn-around jumpers to close out the half and give WSU a 46-38 halftime lead.
Heartle had nine points early in the second half, including a three-pointer to give Winona State their largest lead of the game at 66-51. The Huskies started to claw back into the game, cutting the Winona State lead down to eight, but Isaiah Thompson answered right back and threw down a slam to bring the lead back to double digits. The Warriors would take care of the final minutes and hold on for the 90-78 victory.
