KENOSHA, Wis. - The Winona State University men's basketball team defeated Hillsdale College on Saturday, November 23 by a score of 86-69.
The WSU men's basketball team looked to continue their impressive early season play, traveling to Wisconsin-Parkside in a neurtral site meeting between the Chargers and the Warriors, with Senior
Connor Drew leading the way for Winona State.
How it Happened:
The Warriors would continue their high shooting percentage this season, shooting 65.52% in the first half and 54.5% for the game. The Chargers would get on the board first with a pair of free throws, but WSU would hit three straight three-pointers from
Jhei-R Jones,
Connor Drew and
Tyler Mason, to gain an early nine point lead. Hillsdale College and Winona State would trade buckets after the third media timeout and a Jones three-pointer would put the Warriors on an 11-4 run to end the half. With
Connor Drew hitting the final shot to close it out 46-29.Â
Nine points early in the second half for
Luke Haertle, including a three-pointer would give Winona State a 24 point lead, largest of the game for the Warriors. HC would make a run late in the second half, cutting the lead to 14 points, but an exclamation dunk from
Connor Drew would put the Chargers run to a hold. With the Warriors being too much for Hillsdale College, they would take the win 86-69.
Team Comparison:
- WSU shot 54.5% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc while holding Hillsdale College to 43.6% from the field and 26.9% from beyond the arc.
- Winona State would hold a slight advantage on the turnover battle with the Warriors forcing 11 turnovers compared to the Chargers 10.

Winona State will be next in action on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30pm facing off against Concordia-St. Paul to open up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.
