WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University women's basketball team is set to travel to Alva, Oklahoma, to compete in the GAC-NSIC Conference Challenge. The Conference Challenge will set off with Winona State facing Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, November 8th, at 5:30pm, followed by Minnesota Duluth vs Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7:30pm.
The second day will kick off with Winona State facing off against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday, November 9th, at 3:30pm, followed by Minnesota Duluth vs Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30pm. WSU's match-up against Northwestern Oklahoma State will be the first time that these schools have faced off, while the match-up against Southeastern Oklahoma State will mark the second time that these schools have faced off, with Winona State losing the last match-up 75-74.
Winona State Notes:
- Last season, WSU finished 10-18 overall and 9-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
- The Warriors enter the 2024 season ranked tenth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll
- The 2024 campaign will feature 14 home games and 12 away games, Winona State finished 6-6 at home last season and 6-6 at home in 2022.
- WSU will start regular season play with a home opener against Maryville University on Friday, Nov 15, at 6:00pm.
- Olivia Gamoke led the team in minutes against Central College with 33. Gamoke recorded 20 points on 5-8 shooting beyond the three-point line and recorded a game-high four steals.
- Lindsey Hahn provided valuable minutes off the bench against Central College with 18. Hahn helped the scoring efforts on Sunday night shooting 3-7 beyond the three-point recording 9 points on the night.
- Hailey Markworth led the way on the glass corralling in 7 rebounds. Along with Gamoke, Markworth recorded 20 points on the night, going 8-12 from the field and 50% beyond the three-point line.
- Freshman Avery Moeller gave a scoring boost coming off the bench for the Warriors, shooting 2-6 from beyond the three-point line and recording six points and two rebounds on the night.
Northwestern Oklahoma State Notes:
- Last season, Northwestern Oklahoma State finished 24-7 overall and 16-6 in Great American Conference play.
- Carly Craig led the team in minutes with an average of 34.4 a game.
- Faith Simpson led the team in blocks last year with a total of 35 on the season.
- Simpson led the team last year in field game percentage with .543 and Kynsey Dixon led the team in three-point percentage with .500 on the season.
Southeastern Oklahoma State Notes:
- Last season, Southeastern Oklahoma State finished 10-18 overall and 6-16 in Great American Conference play.
- Brianna Wietelman led the team in blocks last season with 18.
- Ashton Hackler led the team in minutes last season with an average of 29.9 a game.
- Caitlin Kobiske led the team in points last season, recording 409 points in total with an average of 14.6 points a game.
