WAYNE, Neb. - The Winona State University Warriors fall 1-0 to the Wayne State Wildcats in their 2024 season finale.
The Warriors traveled down the Wildcats to face off for the final time this season and were determined to battle until the final whistle, and they did just that. In the first half both teams were battling back and forth without either team finding the back of the net. WSU did out shoot WSC six shots to five in the first 45 minutes but were unable to net a goal.
Madisson Watts,
Johanna Shubert,
Sarah Strating, and
Chloe Turner all took their chances at netting a goal in the first half with shots. Shubert and Turner both had several close calls but the Wildcats goalie was able to save those opportunities.
Alyson Jumper was able to prevent any goals with three saves in the first half with WSC getting five shots in her direction.
Entering into the second half, Winona State was locked in and ready to go collecting 11 shots coming from
Kyleigh Jannisch, Watts,
McKayla Paukner,
Quinn Williams,
Grace Seim,
Jacey Sturek, and
Abigail Williams. Out of those 11 shots Jannisch, Paukner, and Q. Williams put the WSC goalie to the test with five shots on goal. The Wayne State Wildcats were able to find the back of the net seven minutes into the second half with a goal by Alaina Sorensen. WSU came close to tying up the game with just over five minutes left off of a corner kick, but were called for a foul on the corner kick goal causing the goal to be waved off. Jumper was able to collect two more saves in the last 45 minutes of the game.
The Winona State University Warriors end their 2024 season 6-8-2 overall and 5-8-1 in the NSIC.
