WINONA STATE MEN'S BASKETBALL READY FOR NSIC WEEK

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University men's basketball team gets ready for a busy Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) week. The Warriors first travel to the University of Minnesota Duluth on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:30pm followed by a home game on Saturday, December 21 at 3:00pm inside McCown Gymnasium.  

Winona State comes off a weekend split, defeating the University of Sioux Falls on Friday and dropping a contest to Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday. Winona State is receiving votes in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Poll.


(RV) Winona State Notes: 

  • Both TJ Lake and Owen King enter their first year as assistant coaches of the WSU squad. 
  • Luke Haertle leads the Warriors in scoring at 18.0 points per game which puts him third in the league. 
  • Isaiah Thompson averages 9.2 rebounds per game for Winona State, good for second in the NSIC. 
  • As a team WSU shoots 47.6% from the floor and 37.5% from beyond the arc. 
  • Jhei-R Jones averages 2.1 steals per game, which is fourth in the NSIC. 
  • Winona State has dropped two straight games against UMD, most recently in the NSIC tournament semifinals last season at the Sanford Pentagon. 



Minnesota Duluth Notes: 

  • Minnesota Duluth holds a 7-3 record overall and 2-2 in the NSIC. 
  • The Bulldogs are led by Charlie Katona at 13.9 points per game. 
  • Katona also leads them in rebounding at 8.1 per game, good for sixth in the NSIC. 
  • UMD shoots 47.3% from the floor and 34.7% from three-point range. 
  • Minnesota Duluth holds teams to 64.3 points per game, second best in the conference. 


Minnesota State Notes: 
  • Minnesota State holds a 7-5 record, 3-1 in the NSIC. 
  • MSU Mankato comes off a weekend split falling to SMSU and defeating Sioux Falls. 
  • The Mavericks average 76.5 points per game as a team. 
  • From the floor Minnesota State shoots 44.5% and 34.9% from beyond the arc. 
  • Kyreese Willingham averages 16.8 points per game to lead the Mavericks. 
  • Caden Kirkman leads MSU Mankato in rebounding at 6.7 per game.
