WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University men's basketball team had a rare Monday night matchup against Crown College defeating them 105-71 at home inside McCown Gymnasium.
Four Warriors reached double figures in the contest, behind another well balanced shooting display from
Luke Haertle making seven shots on 12 attempts for 24 points.Â
How it Happened:
The Warriors saw a quick 6-0 lead behind four early points from
Isaiah Thompson, but Crown would answer with eight straight points of their own. Both teams would duke it out with the Warriors gaining a lead bit by bit. A 10-0 run highlighted by two
Luke Haertle three pointers would put the lead at 14 for Winona State. A couple of three pointers from the Polars would see them back within single digits before the Warriors would go on another late run with points coming in from multiple freshman extending the lead to 22 points at the half.
The Polars would begin the second half with two deep threes from Rayquan Moore and Levi Royston, but some early points from
Tyler Mason would keep Crown College at bay. Winona State would again start extending the lead inch by inch and a layup from
Luke Haertle would extend the lead to 30 points. The Warriors and Polars would trade baskets hanging around that 30 number the rest of the game with
Mikail Harmison scoring two late three pointers for the Warriors, winning 105-71
Team Comparison:
- Both teams shot over 60% in the first half, the difference in half number one being WSU forcing eight Crown turnovers compared to the Polars two forced turnovers.
- Crown had a two points advantage on bench points scoring 34 compared to the Warriors 32.
- Winona State had 42 points in the paints while Crown had 16 for the game.
- Winona State had 25 points off of turnovers in the game.
Statistical Leaders:
- Luke Haertle led the Warriors with 24 points on 7-12 shooting.
- Connor Drew pitched in 16 points and three rebounds.
- Tyler Mason collected 16 points as well.
- Nick Taylor led the team in rebounds with eight in the game.
- Ten Warriors pitched in points, with all 13 active players seeing action in the game.
The Warriors are next in action on the road against Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Friday, December 6 at 7:30pm followed by a Saturday game against Wayne State College at 5:30pm in Wayne, Neb. on December 7.
