WARRIORS CONTINUE WINNING STREAK TO SIX DEFEATING AUGUSTANA 72-55

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Winona State University men's basketball team faced off against Augustana University to begin the Warriors Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) weekend, winning 72-55. 

Jhei-R Jones led the Warriors with 25 points on 9-11 shooting, going perfect from beyond the arc.

How it Happened: 

Tyler Mason would get on the board first for the Warriors knocking down a three pointer. Both teams would battle for most of the first half before Winona State would go on an 11-0 run behind seven points from senior Connor Drew including a three pointer, layup and a jumper. A Connor Drew layup would end the half with the Warriors up 36-25. 

The second half would begin with a free throw from Isaiah Thompson, but Augustana would quickly cut the lead to single digits with a tip in from Bennett Fried from the Vikings. Extending the lead for the Warriors would be Jhei-R Jones with 11 quick points including two three pointers and three free throws. The Warriors would put the game away with free throws from Tyson Keil and a three from Tyler Orr. Winona State wins 72-55. 
 

Team Comparison: 

  • The Warriors shot 52% from the field while holding the Vikings to 36%. 
  • WSU shot 50% from the line, the lowest mark so far this season. 
  • Winona State grabbed 33 rebounds, just one more than Augustana. 
  • The Warriors held the lead for over 36 minutes in the game. 

Statistical Leaders: 

  • Jhei-R Jones led Winona State with 25 points shooting 81.1% from the floor. 
  • Coming in behind Jones was Connor Drew with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
  • Sam Rensch led the Vikings with 12 points on 40% shooting. 
  • Luke Haertle Chipped in 11 points and two rebounds.
