Warrior Weekend: Softball

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Winona State University softball team is set to take part in the 2024 Sioux Center Dome Tournament, playing two games on Sunday, Feb. 18 and two contests on Monday, Feb. 19. 

On Sunday, WSU will take on Truman State University in a doubleheader starting at 2pm at the Sioux Center Dome. The Warriors will return to the Sioux City Dome on Monday, Feb. 19 to face off against a familiar foe in Upper Iowa University at 11am and 1pm.  

Truman State holds a 2-3 record so far this season competing in the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas. Upper Iowa has started off the season 1-3, facing off against former NSIC foes in Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State Mankato, Minnesota Duluth and Concordia St. Paul in the MSU Invitational Softball Tournament. 

Winona State has opened the 2024 season 1-1, earning a split against Grand View University on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in the RCTC Dome. In game one, Kiley Slaats led WSU at the plate, going 2-for-3 in the game but the Warriors dropped game one to GVU 10-2. The Warriors rebounded in game two to earn a shutout win over Grand View. Head coach Greg Jones saw his squad led by a strong pitching performance from Abby Smith who scattered five hits over five innings in the contest. Offensively, Sam Keller led the team in going 3-for-3 against the Vikings in game two, driving in two runs and scoring twice as well.
