Warrior Game Day: Softball

MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team heads westward for a weekday doubleheader against fellow purple opponent, Minnesota State Mankato, on Tuesday, April 16 with first pitch set for 2pm at MSU Softball Complex- The Diamond in Mankato, Minn.

WINONA STATE STORYLINES...  
The Warriors are 27-15 overall and 11-5 in the NSIC. 
  
WSU is coming off a 3-1 weekend, earning the sweep against UMary and splitting the series against Minot State. 
 
Head coach Greg Jones reached the 950-win plateau recently against Minnesota State Moorhead. 
 
Abbie Hlas leads the Warriors in batting average (.389), walks (18), runs (38), and On-base percentage (.461)
  
Hlas broke Winona State Softball career doubles record earning her 66th double in the Goldey-Beacom game, previously held by Sarah Carlson with 62.   
  
Sam Keller leads Winona State in total at bats (147), hits (57), homeruns (5), and slugging percentage (.612)

Both Keller and Hlas have 14 doubles and two triples this season. 
  
Kiley Slaats leads the team with stolen bases (14-for-16) is third in hits (52). 
  
Carly Engelhardt has collected 35 RBI's so far this season.   
 
In the circle, Izzy Howe holds an 11-4 record on the year, with Warrior teammate Abby Smith owning a 9-7 mark.   
  
Jayda Berg has made 19 pitching appearances, 16 of which were relief efforts. 
 
Smith leads the Warriors with 106.1 innings in the circle and has 46 strikeouts, Howe has collected 105 strikeouts over 95.2 innings.  
  
MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO STORYLINES...
 The Mavericks are 35-11 overall and 15-5 in the NISC. 

MSU is coming off a 3-1 weekend, sweeping St. Cloud and splitting against Minnesota Duluth. 

Head coach Lori Meyer has been the head coach for the Mavericks for 39 years and has collected over 1,366 wins. 

Ellie Tallman lead MSU in batting average (.399), hits (59), and on base percentage (.447). 

Kylie Sullivan leads the Mavericks with 39 runs and slugging percentage (.571).

Tallman and Sullivan both lead the Mavericks in triples, both having 4. 

Gianna Lara lead MSU with homeruns (7), walks (20), and RBIs (40). 

In the circle, McKayla Armbruster has an ERA of 1.78 and a record of 17-5 and 138 innings pitched, which has her at 126 strikeouts. 

Also in the circle, Maddie Oetzmann has a 2.13 ERA with 92 innings pitched with 72 strikeouts with a 16-3 record.

Greg Jones earned career win 950 on March 30 in a 5-0 shutout of Minnesota State Moorhead. Only 50 NCAA softball coaches across all three levels have reached 1,000 wins.
