WINONA, Minn. – Winona State football hits the road to face off against Northern State on Saturday, September 28th at 6:00pm in Dacotah Bank Stadium.
The Warriors (1-2, 1-1 NSIC) are coming off a 28-21 loss to Wayne State at home last week. The Wolves (0-4, 0-3 NSIC) suffered a 41-7 defeat at Augustana a week ago. Last season, WSU defeated NSU 39-16 in Winona, Minn.
Winona State Notes:
- Winona State was unable to complete the comeback against Wayne State last week, falling 28-21 after WSC scored with less than four minutes left.
- The Warriors defeated Northern State in Winona, Minn. last season by a score of 39-16. Northern State had the upper hand in 2021 and 2022, defeating WSU both seasons.
- The Winona State defense sacked Wayne State four times and held the Wildcats to just 39 rushing yards last week.
- Cayden Holcomb had his best performance of the season in week three, catching three balls for 110 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
- Cair'ron Hendred ran the ball 19 times for 84 yards to lead the WSU backfield vs. Wayne State.
- Winona State has the fourth most yards/game offensively in the NSIC, averaging 396.0 yards of total offense.
- Cole Stenstrom averages 249.7 yards/game through the air, good for third in the conference.
- Myles Hawthorne picked up seven tackles last week to lead the WSU defense. Kyjuan Vengrowsky, Conner Haggerty, Brent Jeske, and David Nies each picked up a sack as well.
- Following this week's game, the Warriors host MSU Moorhead for a 1pm kickoff on Saturday, October 5th.
Northern State Notes:
- The Wolves are 0-4 this year and 0-3 in the NSIC.
- NSU scored 8.5 points/game and allows 34.25 points per game to opponents.
- Daniel Britt and Colton Hackel have split time at the quarterback position this season. Britt is 26-40 with one touchdown and two interceptions. Hackel is 20-45 with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
- Ty Wiley is the top receiver for Northern State, averaging 26.25 yards per game on 11 receptions for the season.
- Hank Kraft leads the backfield, rushing for 54.75 yards/game. Britt runs for 40.75 yards per game as well.
- Charlie Larson leads the Northern State defense with 2 sacks. Jake Adams has 51 total tackles for the year.
- Northern State hosts Bemidji State next week.
