MEN’S BASKETBALL HEADS TO THE SUNSHINE STATE FOR TWO NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUPS

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State men's basketball team continues their 2025-26 regular season with a couple of games down in Lakeland, Florida.

The Warriors will play #18 Florida Southern College on Friday, November 28 at 7:30pm (EST). WSU is 0-2 all time against the Moccasins with the last matchup in 1990. Winona State will then play Saint Leo University on Saturday, November 29 at 5:00pm (EST). This is the first time the Warriors and Lions will face off against each other.

Winona State Notes:
  • Winona State enters the week 1-3 after a pair of losses to NSIC foe (RV) Concordia-St. Paul and a nail-biting loss to UW-Parkside.
  • The Warriors enter the 2025-26 season ranked ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Head Coach Todd Eisner is in his 11th season at the helm of the program. He is 159-121 during his tenure with the Warriors.
  • Winona State enters the holiday weekend averaging 61.3 points per game on 41.3% from the field.
  • Gavyn Hurley is leading the Warriors offensively with 14.8 points per contest on an efficient 23-of-33 shooting (69.7%) from the field. Hurley is also the squad's leading rebounder with 6.5 boards a game.
  • Transfer Ryan Heise is right behind, averaging 12.8 points a game including a career-high 23 points last weekend against UW-Parkside.  
  • Freshman Aidan Bardic averages 9.0 points per game while Tyler Mason chips in with 7.3 points per game and a team high 2.8 assists per contest.
  • Following this week, the Warriors will return home for the first time this season, hosting Minnesota State University, Mankato in an NSIC showdown on Thursday, December 4 at 5:30pm. Then, Winona State will hit the road to play St. Cloud State University on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00pm in another NSIC test.
 #18 Florida Southern Notes:
  • Florida Southern is off to a fast start going 4-1 in their first five contests. The Moccasins picked up a 98-77 over Staten Island win in their last contest on November 18.
  • Head Coach Mike Donnelly is in his 11th year with the team, compiling a record of 192-106 in his tenure. He has led the Moccasins to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances over the last two seasons.
  • Florida Southern enters the weekend averaging a staggering 92.8 points per game.
  • Brady Corso is leading the offensive charge, averaging 17.0 points per contest.
  • Amare Miller is a key player to watch averaging 16.0 points and team-high 8.0 rebounds a game.
  •  Other players averaging double digit points are Elijah Walsh (15.4) and Ameer Ramadan (11.0).
  • Following the game against the Warriors, the Moccasins will face Bemidji State on Day 2 of the Thanksgiving Classic on November 29 at 7:30pm (EST)
     
Saint Leo Notes:
  • The Lions are currently 2-2 on the year after winning their last matchup 90-84 against Webber International (Fla.).
  • Head Coach Spencer Henke is in his 2nd season leading the Lions Men's Basketball team. He has compiled a record of 12-20 in his short time at the helm of the program.
  • Saint Leo comes into the weekend averaging 79.0 points per game while giving up 83.8 points per contest.
  • Camden Cerese looks to continue his solid start to the season, averaging 17.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
  • Donovan Hill is a vital piece to the Lions averaging 15.0 points a game with 10.0 rebounds through the opening stretch of contests.
  • Dominic Commisso adds 14.3 points per game to the balanced Lions offensive attack.
  • Before taking on the Warriors, the Lions will play Bemidji State on Friday, November 28 at 5:00pm (EST).
