WINONA, Minn. – Winona State's men's and women's cross country teams are back in action Saturday, November 8th in Joplin, Mo. for the NCAA Division II Regional Championships hosted by Missouri Southern State University.
Both teams will race at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course on Saturday morning with the women racing at 10am and the men to follow at 11:15am.
Women's Cross Country Notes:
- WSU cross country won the NSIC Championships with a team score of 57 points.
- Sophia Taarud was crowned the individual NSIC champion with a time of 221:19.6, nearly 33 seconds ahead of second place.
- The Warrior's top 5 all earned First Team All- Conference accolades.
- Kylie Anderson finished fourth overall with a time of 22:01.30, Ella Voit followed in sixth with a time of 22:11.10, Kelsey Young finished eighth in 22:13.70 and Stella Rusch were right behind in ninth at 22:16.30 to round out the Warrior's top five.
- WSU is currently ranked first in the NSIC with their outright win.
- The Warriors are also ranked first in the Central region and 14th nationally according to USTFCCCA rankings.
- Last year the Warriors left the Regional with 4th place finish out of 31 teams.
Men's Cross Country Notes:
- The WSU men's team tabbed a 6th place finish at the NSIC Championships with a team score of 187.
- Mitchell Johnstone earned NSIC Second Team All-Conference honors with a 17th place finish and a time of 26:10.78.
- Robert Spain followed with a time of 26:39.03, Jacob Lanzara who shortly followed with a time of 26:54.95, followed by Calvin Redeker at 27:14.01, and Wyatt Harmoning rounding out the crew at 27:36.68 to flesh out the Warrior's top 5.
- The Warriors finished sixth in the NSIC, with the conclusion of the NSIC Championship.
- The Warriors came in 18th place out of 31 teams at last year's Regional.
