Winona, Minn.- The Warriors men's basketball team took down Sioux Falls 91-77 in McCown Gymnasium.
Winona State outpaced the Cougars with a sturdy 15-point lead at the half. A career-high 29 points from
Tyler Mason pushed the Warriors to a 91-77 victory.
How it Happened:
WSU entered the score column with a bucet from
Alessandro Tonelli making it 3-2 USF at the 16:36 mark. Mason kicked off his dominant half with a three-ball at the 12:52 mark to give the Warriors a 9-7 lead.
Gavyn Hurley put up five points of his own to extend the Winona State advantage to 14-9 with 10:55 remaining in the half.
Jaron Crews hit a step-back jumper accelerating the Winona State lead to 22-15 at the 8:11 mark. Mason connected on another three-pointer, giving the Warriors a double-digit lead at 25-15 with 7:19 remaining in the frame. A third Mason three-ball of the half was followed by a Tonelli three-pointer of his own to grant the Warriors a comfortable 33-19 edge at the 4:35 mark. Mason buried his fourth three of the half from Crews third assist with 4:04 left to put the game at 36-20. Lewis Woosnam put up four points in a row, cutting the WSU lead to 40-29 at 1:36. Bardic drove the lane for a bucket at the end of the half, guiding the Warriors to a 46-31 advantage through one half.
Sioux Falls got off to a fast start in the second half, cutting the lead to 48-38 after a Woosnam layup at the 19:09 mark. A layup by Hurley kept the Warriors edge at a solid 12 points with a score of 57-45 at the 15:32 mark. Mason hit a layup at 11:39 to make it 65-53 with 11:39 to play. Brogan Madson cut the USF deficit to 69-58 with 9:57 left. A fastbreak dunk by Camden Davis cut the WSU edge to single digits at 76-67 with 5:30 remaining.
Ryan Heise buried a jumper to make it 82-70 at the 3:52 mark. Brogan cut the USF deficit to five at 82-77 with 2:48 remaining. Mason hit a pair of free throws to give himself a career-high 29 points to end the game at 91-77.
