ST. CLOUD, Minn.- The Warriors men's basketball team was defeated 84-50 after a slow start from the field.
Winona State fell behind early and found themselves down 40-19 at the half. The second half saw St. Cloud State explode their lead to as many as 36 points with the final being a comfortable 84-50 win for the Huskies.
How it Happened:
Winona State got off to a slow start from the field with their first field goal at 15:54 with a
Tyler Mason three-pointer to make it 5-3 Huskies. Five points from Luke Winkel helped propel St. Cloud State to a 12-3 lead at 12:47.
Gavyn Hurley and
Jaron Crews connected on back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to 12-8 SCSU with 11:26 left in the half. After a three-ball by Hurley made it 19-11, SCSU went on an 11-0 run ushered by six points from Winkel to make it 30-11 at the 6:21 mark.
Kayden Wells ended the run with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 30-14 at 5:10.
Aidan Bardic made a layup to make it 40-19 St. Cloud State at the break.
After a Huskies bucket, Hurley accelerated a Warriors 8-0 run with six points of his own to cut the lead to 42-27. Baskets from
Tyler Borowski and Bardic made it 44-32 SCSU with 14:20 to play. St. Cloud State bumped the lead back to 17 at 53-36 after a Kynan Philippe free throw at 10:17.
Ryan Watters entered the scoresheet with a three-ball making it 53-39 Huskies.
Jackson Hayes ended a Warriors field goal drought with a layup at 6:04 making it 65-43 SCSU. Bardic scored on a layup to finalize the game at 84-50 Huskies.

Winona State returns home next weekend for a pair of NSIC contests. First, WSU will play Sioux Falls on Saturday, December 13 at 5:00pm. The following day, the Warriors will face SMSU at 2:00pm.
