MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University men's basketball team traveled to Mankato, Minnesota to face off against the Mavericks, falling in the contest 76-52.
How it Happened:
The first five minutes of action was all MSU going into the first media timeout up 17-1. Connor Drew would get the Warriors first field goal of the game, leading WSU back within four points, going on a 12-0 run. Trading buckets the rest of the first half the Mavericks saw themselves up 13 when the buzzer sounded.
The second half began with Caden Kirkman from the Mavericks knocking down a layup with Connor Drew following that up with a made shot from beyond the arc. The Warriors trying to find momentum in any way they can cut the lead to 12 points at the 15-minute mark. MSU went on to extend the lead to as much as 28 points in half number two, eventually taking the game 76-52.
Statistical Leaders:
- Tyler Mason led WSU in scoring with 11 points on 2-4 shooting from three-point range.
- Isaiah Thompson had 10 points to go along with his seven rebounds in the contest.
- Luke Haertle corralled a team high of 10 rebounds.
- Kyreese Willingham led the Mavericks with 20 points on 8-21 shooting.
Team Comparisons:
- Winona State shot 34.7% from the field and 29.2% from three-point range while MSU shot 43.1% and 40.7% from beyond the arc.
- The Mavericks topped the Warriors with 28 points in the paint compared to WSU's 16.
