WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's basketball team hosted Augustana University in a mid-week Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup, defeating them 90-83.
Senior
Connor Drew led the Warriors in scoring with 27 points on 8-13 shooting and 6-8 from beyond the arc. Both
Luke Haertle and
Jhei-R Jones hauled in eight rebounds to pace Winona State.
How it Happened:
The Warriors began the first half on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down four straight shots jumping out to an early 14-7 lead. The Vikings hung around bringing the game within two points multiple times before the second media timeout. WSU collected on every AU opportunity given to them, ending the half up six at 49-43.
Half number two began with a made three-pointer from Viking Tanner Te Slaa just nine seconds into the half. Winona State would return the made three with a layup from
Luke Haertle and made shot from beyond the arc from
Isaiah Thompson, keeping AU at bay. The Warriors extended the lead to double digits twice in the second half, keeping the game just out of reaching distance from Augustana, eventually taking the contest 90-83.
Statistical Leaders:
- Winona State was led in scoring by Connor Drew with 27 points while also collecting seven rebounds and three assists.
- Luke Haertle had 19 points, a team-high six assists and eight rebounds.
- Isaiah Thompson gathered 16 points and six rebounds in the contest
