WARRIORS TAKE ON DRAGONS IN NCAA DII CENTRAL REGION SEMIFINALS

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State men's basketball will face MSU Moorhead in the NCAA Division II Central Region semifinals on Sunday, March 16 at 5:00pm in Lee Arena on the campus of Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
 
No. 3 seed Winona State defeated No. 6 seed Southwest Minnesota State in the first round, 69-62. No. 2 seed MSUM defeated No. 7 seed Fort Hays State in the first round. The Warriors and Dragons have squared off three times this year, with MSUM winning all three including the NSIC Tournament semifinal matchup on March 3.
 
Winona State Notes:
  • The Warriors are 22-10 this season and earned the No. 3 seed in the Central Region.
  • WSU is now 6-4 all time in NCAA Tournament first round games. The Warriors hold a 4-2 record in the second round.
  • Connor Drew led Winona State with 17 points and nine boards in their first round win. Isaiah Thompson had a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Warriors.
  • Luke Haertle was named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year. Drew and Thompson joined him on the All-NSIC team.
  • Four Warriors average double-digit scoring with Haertle leading the way at 17.0 points per game. Drew (14.3), Thompson (13.5), and Jhei-R Jones (10.9) are also in double figures.
  • The Warriors will look to make their fifth regional final in program history with a win.
 
MSU Moorhead Notes:
  • MSU Moorhead is 24-8 this season and currently ranked #17 in the NABC Coaches Poll. The Dragons earned the No. 2 seed in the Central Region.
  • MSUM has won 12 straight games, including the NSIC Tournament championship game.
  • The Dragons average 75.8 points per game on offense and allow just 67.9 points per game to opponents.
  • Carson Johnson leads the team with 19.6 points/game. Johnson earned NSIC Tournament MVP honors and was a First Team All-NSIC member as a true freshman.
  • Logan Kinsey adds 15.0 points per game and was also on the All-NSIC First Team.
  • MSU Moorhead is in their fifth straight NCAA Central Region Tournament and their ninth overall.
 
The winner of the semifinal matchup will advance to the NCAA Central Region Championship game on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00pm.
