ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Winona State softball split today's doubleheader at St. Cloud State, winning the first 2-1 and dropping the second 7-6.
 
Game One: WSU (2) – SCSU (1)
The Warriors scored two runs in the top half of the first inning and 
Izzy Howe allowed just one run and one hit to lead WSU to victory. 
Kiley Slaats started the first-inning rally with a single, followed by a 
Logan Anderson single and an 
Indigo Fish walk to load the bases. 
Alyssa Woelfel flied out to center field to score Slaats on a sacrifice fly. Then, 
Bryn Elsenpeter singled to center field to score Anderson.
 
The two runs in the first were enough for Winona State as St. Cloud State scored just one run in the fifth after a their lone hit of the game. Howe was phenomenal in the circle, giving up just one run on one hit and striking out four batters. Slaats, Anderson, Fish, Elsenpter, and 
Ashlee Chantos scattered WSU's five hits in the contest.
 
Game Two: SCSU (7) – WSU (6)
Winona State got on the board early once again, scoring two runs in the first and two more in the third to go up 4-0. 
Braelee Jodarski hit a solo shot to put the Warriors up 5-0 after 3.5 innings. St. Cloud State put together four runs in the fourth to get back into the game.
 
The Warriors answered right back by adding another run in the fifth to take the 6-4 lead, but SCSU scored two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to hand WSU a 7-6 defeat.
 
Sam Keller, Woelfel, Elsenpeter, and 
Tiegan Mancuso each had a pair of hits for the Warriors, who had 12 hits as a team. The Huskies scattered 11 hits for their seven runs.
 
Jayda Berg started in the circle for WSU, giving up four runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Howe came in in the fourth inning and ended up taking the loss giving up three runs on just one hit.
 
Winona State (22-7, 3-1 NSIC) is set for a midweek doubleheader at Concordia-St. Paul before hosting MSU Moorhead and Northern State at home next weekend.
