WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team won both games against Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday, March 28.
The Warriors took game one 10-8 and game two 11-0 against the Dragons.
Game 1: MSUM (2) - WSU (10) :
The Dragons where the first to get on the board when Avery Steffen hit a two run home run right away in the first. The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the first with
Sam Keller scoring off of a throwing error made by the MSUM shortstop then followed by
Alyssa Woelfel hitting a ground out RBI to score
Logan Anderson to tie the game up. WSU would score again off of a
Indigo Fish ground out RBI, which scored Keller to put Winona State up 3-2 in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Bryn Elsenpeter started off the inning with a solo home run followed by
Ashlee Chantos hitting a double to shortly after be hit in off of a
Braelee Jodarski home run. The Warriors were not done there,
Kiley Slaats hit a double to score Mancuso followed by Anderson hitting a deep foul ball that scored Slaats and then Fish hit her first Warrior home run to put WSU up 9-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Jodarski hit a solo home run to end the game with a 10-2 with the run rule.

Izzy Howe threw all five innings collecting four strikeouts and two earned runs after facing 19 batters. At the plate, Fish was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Chantos was 2 for 3 with two doubles, and Jodarski was 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs.
Game 2: MSUM (0) - WSU (11):
The Warriors and the Dragons were deadlocked through three and a half innings tied at zero when Elsenpeter got walked, Chantos reached on off of a throwing error made by the catcher, which advanced Elsenpeter to third and Chantos to second followed by a double hit by Jodarski scoring both Elsenpeter and Chantos. Right after Mancuso got walked then Keller singled and advanced to second on a throwing error made by the center fielder and Mancuso moved to third off of an interference by the shortstop. Mancuso then scored and Keller advanced to third off of a throwing error made by the catcher. Slaats would then hit a double to score Keller. Slaats took third off of a passed ball during Anderson's at bat to then score off of a passed fourth ball to Anderson, to put the Warriors up 5-0. In the bottom of the fifth, Chantos was hit by a pitch to reach on followed by a single hit by Jodarski to place runners on first and second. Both Chantos and Jodarski advanced to second and third off of a wild pitch, putting both in scoring position. Keller would then hit a deep fly ball to left field to score Chantos for the sacrifice fly. During Slaats' at bat, Jodarski moved over to third on a passed ball and then scored to put WSU up 7-0. In the bottom of the sixth, Woelfel reached on off of a single to up the left side, Elsenpeter reached on to first off of a fielding error made by the left fielder, then
Jaden Johnson came in to pinch hit and got walked to load the bases. In similar fashion to game one, Jodarski came up to bat and took one sailing over the center field fence for a grand slam to close out game two, 11-0.

Jayda Berg pitched all six innings with no earned runs and two strikeouts against 21 batters. At the plate, Keller went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI, Slaats went 2 for 4 with two doubles and a RBI, and Jodarski went 3 for 4 with a double, a grand slam, and six RBIs.
The Winona State University softball team will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 where they will face off against the Wolves from Northern State set to have games start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Game times may change due to weather, for the latest updates check
