WARRIOR SOFTBALL DROPS A PAIR AGAINST MINOT STATE

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team drops a pair of games against Minot State on Saturday, April 12. 

Game 1: Minot State 6 - WSU 2: 
The Warriors were the first to get on the board in the bottom of the second after Tiegan Mancuso got on off of a single followed by a double hit by Sam Keller to put WSU up 1-0. The Beavers answered back in the top of the third with a error made by the Warriors, which scored Izzy Anderson. That was shortly followed by a single hit by Paige Kellogg allowing Micaela Resler to cross home plate putting Minot State up 2-1. The Beavers extended their lead in the top of the fourth off a single hit by Izzy Anderson to score Taylor Smith, which put Minot State up 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Bryn Elsenpeter started things off with a double to left center, but WSU was unable to hit her in. Minot State would then hit in three more runs in the top of the fifth to put them up 6-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Elsenpeter started the rally with a solo homerun, but unfortunately the Warriors were not able to cross hit in an other runs falling 6-2. 

In the circle, Jayda Berg pitched 4.1 innings and Shayna Woolwine pitched 2.2 innings collectively getting two strike outs on a total of 38 batters. At the plate, Keller went 2 for 2 with a double and a RBI, Indigo Fish went 2 for 4, Elsenpeter went 2 for 4 with a double and a homerun with a RBI. 

Game 2: Minot State 9 - WSU 1: 
Minot State was the first to get on the board in the top of the second scoring three runs after loading the bases and Micaela Resler grounded out to the shortstop and Sara Van Wickler hitting a double to score two more runs. The Beavers would get on another run across in the third, but Warriors would cut the deficit when Logan Anderson hit a single to left field allowing Mancuso to cross home plate, putting the score at 4-1. The Beavers would score in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to put the score at 9-1. Winona State was unable to get to find the gaps and fell in game two, 9-1 in six innings. 

In the circle, Izzy Howe pitched six innings collecting five strikeouts off of 32 batters. At the plate, Keller was 2 for 4 with a double and Anderson was 1 for 2 with a RBI. 


The Winona State University softball team will be back in action at Maynard R. Johnson Field on Sunday, April 13 when they will face the University of Mary with first pitches set for noon and 2 p.m.
