MARSHALL, Minn. - The Winona State University softball team takes two games from the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Friday, April 18.
Game 1| WSU 8- SMSU 0:
The Warriors were the first to get on the board right away in the first when
Indigo Fish hit a RBI single to score
Sam Keller. WSU would then score again in the second when
Alyssa Woelfel hit a single up the middle to score
Jaden Johnson. That would be followed by a double hit by
Logan Anderson to score Keller and Woelfel, putting Winona State up 4-0. The Warriors wouldn't get on the board again until the fifth inning when
Braelee Jodarski would hit a double to score Johnson and
Bryn Elsenpeter. Keller would then hit a single, which would score Jodarski, WSU up 7-0. Winona State would get their eighth run to cross home plate off of a wild pitch, scoring
Kiley Slaats. The Mustangs weren't able to get on the board allowing Winona State to win 8-0 in six innings.
In the circle,
Jayda Berg pitched all six innings only allowing two hits and one strikeout off of 19 batters. At the plate, Keller was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs, Woelfel was 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run, Anderson was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Jodarski was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs.
Game 2| WSU 5- SMSU 1:
WSU got on the board right away off of a double hit by Fish to score Woelfel. The Warriors would cross home plate two more times in the third when Elsenpeter hit a double to score Fish and right after, Slaats hit a single to score Elsenpeter to put the Warriors up 3-0. Winona State would then score again in the fifth off of a two run homerun hit by Slaats, scoring both herself and Elsenpeter, WSU up 5-0. The Mustangs tried to make a comeback with getting one run across off of a single hit by Lexi Ingalls to score Paris Van Dyke. The Warriors took game two 5-1.

Izzy Howe pitched all seven innings only allowing five hits and collecting seven strikeouts off of 28 batters faced. At the plate, Fish went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI, Elsenpeter went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI, and Slaats went 2 for 3 with a homerun and three RBIs.
