WINONA, Minn. – Winona State earned a doubleheader split against Minnesota State this afternoon at Maynard R. Johnson field in Winona, Minn.
The Warriors defeated the Mavericks 4-2 in the first game before dropping game two 4-2. Winona State is now 32-9 overall and 13-3 within the NSIC.
Game One: WSU (4) – MSU (2)
The Mavericks scored the game's first run in the top half of the first inning. Both teams settled in until Winona State strung together a two-out rally in the bottom of the third. Five straight hits drove across four runs for the Warriors. MSU grabbed one run back in the fifth but Winona State held on for the win.
The Warriors scattered six hits by six different batters with
Logan Anderson,
Indigo Fish,
Bryn Elsenpeter, and
Jaden Johnson each driving in runs.
Jayda Berg went the distance, allowing just two runs while scattering nine hits on an efficient 72 pitches.
Game Two: MSU (4) – WSU (1)
Minnesota State got on the board first in game two as well, plating a run in the third inning.
Alyssa Woelfel hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth to tie it up at one apiece. Minnesota State scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh to go up 4-1 and take the win.
Tiegan Mancuso led WSU with a pair of hits in the game, while the Warriors tallied seven hits and left six runners on base.
Izzy Howe allowed four runs on five hits while striking out six batters in a complete-game effort.
The Warriors are back in action as they host Minot State on Saturday, April 12th at 1:00pm and then UMary on Sunday at noon.
