WINONA, Minn. – Winona State softball will battle against Minnesota State in the NSIC Tournament semifinals today at 2:30pm in Sioux Falls, SD at Bowden Field.
Winona State defeated Concordia-St. Paul 5-3 in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals behind 11 hits, including five extra-base hits. The Warriors and Mavericks split the season series on April 9 as WSU earned a 4-2 win but dropped the second game 4-1.
Winona State Notes:
- The Warriors are 41-13 this season and finished the regular season with a 21-17 NSIC record to earn the third seed in the conference tournament.
- Sam Keller leads Winona State with a .424 batting average, 1.200 OPS, 48 runs, 70 hits, 18 doubles, four triples, 111 total bases, .673 slugging percentage, 38 walks, and a .527 on-base percentage.
- Braelee Jodarski leads WSU with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs.
- Izzy Howe earned a complete-game win in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals and holds a 21-7 record on the season with a 2.14 ERA with 199 strikeouts.
- Jayda Berg, Sam Keller, Alyssa Woelfel, and Tiegan Mancuso each earned All-NSIC honors.
- Head coach Greg Jones earned his 1,000th career victory in a doubleheader sweep over Wayne State last weekend.
- The Warriors have won the NSIC Tournament a league-best seven times (1998, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2105, 2018).
Minnesota State Notes:
- The Mavericks are 38-17 overall and finished 21-7 in the NSIC to earn the second seed in the NSIC Tournament.
- MSU defeated Wayne State in 10 innings to advance to the semifinals.
- Marina Carter leads Minnesota State with a .356 batting average.
- Gianna Lara has driven in 38 runs while Maddie Helin leads the team with seven home runs.
- Sailor Hall and Brianne Stone have led the Mavericks in the circle, picking up 13 and 12 wins respectively.
The winner of the semifinal matchup will advance to the NSIC Tournament championship game on Saturday, May 3 at 12:00pm.
