WARRIOR FOOTBALL LOOKS TO UPSET #9 AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY IN ROAD MATCHUP

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University football team will travel to #9 Augustana University in a road test over in Sioux Falls, S.D. Gametime is set for 1:00pm on Saturday, September 27th at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

The NSIC matchup will feature two teams who were both victors last week. Winona State defeated Minot State 35-25 last week and #9 Augustana cruised past Bemidji State 42-14.

The Warriors lost last year's matchup 31-0 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium against the Vikings.

 Winona State Notes: 
  • The Warriors (2-2, 2-1 NSIC) enter the 2025 season voted to finish ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Brian Curtin is in his first year as head coach of the Warriors.
  • WSU finished 2-3 on the road last season and 2-4 in 2023. 
  • Winona State is 7-11 all-time against Augustana University.
  • Quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer will look to build off of last week's offensive success, as he threw three TDs in the win. Overall, Flottmeyer is 61-of-104 with six TD passes and five picks on the 2025 campaign.
  • Anthony Powell will look to keep his red-hot streak going into Augustana. Powell ran wild last week, going for 133 yards on 21 attempts and two rushing touchdowns. Powell has five rushing touchdowns in the last three games.
  • The Warriors freshman WR tandem of Nolan Ginskey and Jake Schultz will each look to score for the third straight week. Ginskey came up big last week going for six catches for 89 yards and two scores.
  • The defense will turn to Blake Schraufnagel, Brent Jeske, Ethan Doucette, and David Nies to slow down the AUGIE offense that comes in averaging 32.5 points per game. All four Warriors have at least 19 tackles on the season with Doucette and Wesley Wollan leading the squad with 3.0 TFLs.
  • Conner Haggerty is also a player to watch on the Warrior defense, as he has recorded 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles with his 13 tackles on the 2025 campaign.
  • Jahmani Muhammad will look to spark the Warriors special team's unit, as he recorded four kick returns for 169 yards a week ago, including an 85-yard return to set up a Winona State touchdown last week.
  • Following this week's game, the Warriors will return home and face Wayne State College on Saturday, October 4th at 1:00pm at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
 
#9 Augustana University Notes:
  • The Viking (4-0, 3-0 NSIC) enter the 2025 season voted to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Augustana enters the weekend after an easy 42-14 win over Bemidji State in last week's contest.
  • AUGIE is fourth in the NSIC in offense, averaging 32.5 points per game and third in defense, allowing 16.8 points per game.
  • The Vikings are led by quarterback Gunnar Hensley who is 94-of-138 with 1,102 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes.
  • Augustana's deep receiver room that has four players with at least 148 receiving yards is led by Isaiah Huber. Huber has 24 catches for 292 yards and a TD on the 2025 campaign.
  • Jaxon Haynes and Klayton Sattler both have three receiving touchdowns this season.
  • Defensively, Augustana is led by defensive back Logan Leonard. Leonard has a team-leading 22 tackles, three PBUs, and has caused two turnovers on the year.
  • Following this weekend, the Vikings will make the short trip to play against the University of Sioux Falls on the road. Gametime is set for 1:00pm on October 4th.
