MEN’S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO GET BACK ON TRACK WHEN THEY TRAVEL TO NORTHERN STATE AND JAMESTOWN

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State men's basketball team continues their 2025-26 regular season with a pair of road contests against Northern State University and the University of Jamestown on January 16th and 17th.

The Warriors will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on the Northern State Wolves on Friday, January 16 at 5:30pm. WSU is 40-50 all time against the Wolves with the Warriors winning last season's matchup 74-69 on the road. Winona State will then head to Jamestown, N.D. to play at the University of Jamestown on Saturday, January 17 at 3:00pm. WSU is 1-0 all-time against the Jimmies, defeating them all the way back in 1979. Jamestown made the jump to NCAA Division II this season, after competing in the NAIA.

Winona State Notes:
  • Winona State enters the week 4-11 (3-7 NSIC) after a couple tight losses, falling 67-62 to Minnesota Crookston and 83-79 to MSU Moorhead.
  • The Warriors enter the 2025-26 season ranked ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Head Coach Todd Eisner is in his 11th season at the helm of the program. He is 162-129 during his tenure with the Warriors. 
  • Winona State enters the week averaging 67.6 ppg and giving up 76.9 ppg.
  • WSU is 44.4% (375-of-844) from the field and 30.7% (100-of-326) from three-point range on the season. Winona State is third in the NSIC in free throw percentage at a clip of 75.6% (164-of-217).
  • Gavyn Hurley returned to action this past weekend in a big way after netting a career-high of 26 points in the narrow loss vs. MSU Moorhead on January 10. Hurley averages a team-best 14.8 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. He shoots an efficient 57.0% (61-of-107) from the field.
  • Tyler Mason looks to be a strong contributor to the offense after games of 21 and 12 points this past weekend. Mason adds 12.3 points per game on 43.5% (67-of-154) shooting from the floor and 36.6% (34-of-93) from three-point land.
  • Ryan Heise chips in with 12.0 ppg while Aidan Bardic is leading the team with 3.0 assists per game.
  • Following this week, the Warriors continue their road trip, facing Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State on January 23rd and 24th respectively.
Northern State Notes:
  • Northern State returns to their home floor after a split 1-1 NSIC weekend. The Wolves lost 86-79 to Wayne State and defeated Augustana 91-88 last weekend.
  • NSU is 6-10 (6-4 NSIC) during the 2025-26 campaign.
  • The Wolves enter the 2025-26 season ranked 13th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Head Coach Matt enters his first season at the helm of the NSU program. He has compiled a career record of 230-135 in his coaching career.
  • Northern State average 74.4 ppg while allowing 75.3 ppg to opponents.
  • Joshua Book is a key player to watch averaging 13.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, and 4.3 apg.
  • Other players in double figures are James Glenn (12.8 ppg) and Marshawn Smith (11.1 ppg).
  • Following the game against the Warriors, NSU will travel to Concordia-St. Paul to play the Golden Bears on January 17th at 4:00pm.
Jamestown Notes:
  • Jamestown is coming off a successful weekend after defeating Augustana 87-77 and Wayne State 73-70.
  • UJ is 9-7 (7-3 NSIC) during the 2025-26 campaign.
  • The Jimmies enter the 2025-26 season ranked 14th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. This is the first season Jamestown is competing in the NSIC after their jump from NAIA.
  • Head Coach Casey Bruggeman is in his second year with the team, compiling a record of 26-18 in his short tenure.
  • The Jimmies average 78.1 ppg while allowing 77.3 ppg to opponents.
  • Anthony Walters leads the Jimmies in scoring at a clip of 19.6 ppg, good for fourth in the NSIC.
  • Other Jamestown players averaging double figures are Owen Hektner (13.1 ppg) and Ford Okehi (10.8 ppg).
  • Before they take on the Warriors, the Jimmies face Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, January 16th at 5:30 in Jamestown, N.D.
