JAMESTOWN, N.D.- The Warriors men's basketball team had five players score double-digit points to grant them a 79-70 road win at the University of Jamestown.
Winona State took a narrow 41-35 lead into the break. The Warriors never trailed in the second half to pick up the nine-point victory over the Jimmies.
How it Happened:
Ryan Heise scored the Warriors first five points, giving WSU an early 5-2 lead at the 19:04 mark.
Gavyn Hurley connected on a jumper, putting the Warriors up 12-7 with 15:30 left in the half. Jamestown took the lead after a Thomas Diew jumper put the Jimmies up 13-12 at 13:30. WSU retook the lead after buckets by
Tyler Mason and
Jaron Crews made it 20-16 with 10:07 left in the first half. After four points from the Jimmies Henry Meyer,
Aidan Bardic buried a jump shot to keep WSU in front by four points at 29-25 at the 5:37 mark. Ford Okehii tied the contest 35-35 after a three-ball at 1:43. Crews and Mason connected on back-to-back three-pointers to end the half at 41-35 Warriors.
WSU jumped out of the half firing extending their advantage to 49-37 after a Mason layup and Hurley free throw with 17:12 to play. Heise kept the edge at double digits with a crucial three-pointer at 14:07 making it 54-44. Mason buried a three-ball followed by a Hurley jumper putting the contest at 59-49 at the 12:45 mark. Anthony Walters cut the Warriors lead to 65-59 with a three-pointer at 7:03.
Tyson Keil went two-for-two from the charity stripe keeping the lead at a comfortable 69-59 with 5:35 remaining. Aiden Johnson gave the Jimmies some momentum with a three-pointer at 3:51 to put the game at 69-63 WSU. Five points from Mason gave WSU a 74-65 edge at the 2:28 mark. Winona State iced the game with a pair of FTs from Bardic, helping WSU take the road win at 79-70.
