ST. CLOUD, Minn. ---The Winona State soccer team face St. Cloud State on Friday afternoon, falling 2-1 to the Huskies.
The Warriors fell to 1-9-1 (1-7-1 NSIC) with the loss, while the Huskies improved to 5-4-3 (4-3-2 NSIC).
Winona State and St. Cloud State battled throughout the first half, with both teams looking to generate scoring opportunities. The Warriors broke through at the 31:29 mark when Sam Perez found the back of the net off an assist from Faith Quinn, giving Winona State a 1-0 lead. Both teams played back and forth near the middle of the field for the remainder of the half, with the Warriors carrying that advantage into halftime.
The Huskies responded out of the gate to open the second half in the second half, when Linsey Trapino scored off an assist from Izzy Halunen to even the game at 1-1.
The Warriors looked to regain the lead late in the game, with Quinn and Cora Nothem recording shots on goal that were saved by the St. Cloud State goalkeeper. However, the Huskies were able to capitalize at the 82:02 mark when Abby Kavanagh scored off an assist from Darby Allen to gain their first lead in the contest.
Winona State continued to search for an equalizer in the closing minutes of the contest, but St. Cloud State held on to secure a 2-1 victory.
