WINONA STATE SOFTBALL STARTS SEASON WITH WEEKLONG ROADTRIP

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State softball team will travel to Rochester, Minn. to play a home double header against Grand View University and then will travel to Branson, Mo. for the NCAA D-II Battle Tournament.

The Winona State Warriors will travel to Rochester, Minn. and play a double header against the Grand View University Vikings at the RCTC Dome on Wednesday, February 11th with the first game starting at 12:00pm and the second game scheduled for 2:00pm. Later, in the week WSU will travel to Branson, Mo for the NCAA DII Battle. On Friday, February 13th they will match up against the University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons at 1:00pm followed by the Pittsburg State Gorillas at 3:30pm. To finish the week, on Saturday, February 14th Winona State will clash with Truman State at 1:00pm and Southwest Baptist at 3:30pm. On Sunday, February 15th, the Warriors will play against William Jewell at 10:30am to finish their tournament.

Winona State Notes:
  • Winona State is coached by Greg Jones who will be entering his 27th season with the Warriors and has collected 1,004 wins with only 350 losses.
  • The Warriors finished the 2025 season with a 42-14 record and were 21-7 in the NSIC, finishing second in the conference.
  • Junior RHP Izzy Howe was voted the NSIC Preseason Softball Pitcher of the Year. Howe put up 190.2 IP and a record of 21-7 in the 2025 season.
  • Senior IF Bryn Elsenpeter was voted the WSU Player to Watch by the NSIC, Elsenpeter batted 0.320 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in the 2025 season.
Grand View Notes:
  • Grand View is coached by Lou A. Yacinich who is entering his 23rd season with the Vikings and holds a overall record of 701-441 at Grand View.
  • The Vikings went 42-16 overall last season and 20-4 in the HAAC, they finished last season on a loss in the NAIA World Series to #2 Georgia Gwinnett College.
  • GVU has started the 2026 season 0-4 after dropping games to Keiser University and St. Thomas University in Florida.
Missouri – St. Louis:
  • Missouri – St. Louis is coached by Chelsey Mulligan who is entering her third season with the Tritons and holds an overall record of 47-53.
  • The Tritons went 19-26 overall last season and 12-16 in the GLVC, they finished last season with a split double header against Truman State.
  • Missouri-St. Louis softball team has been tabbed for a 10th-place finish during the 2026 GLVC season in the annual Softball Preseason Poll.
Truman State:
  • Truman State is coached by Ron Ferrill who is entering his fourth season with the Bulldogs and holds a record of 66-91.
  • The Bulldogs went 26-25 overall last season and 14-14 in the GLVC, they finished last season with a split double header against Missouri – St. Louis.
  • Truman State softball team opened the 2026 season with a challenging six-game weekend at the Alvy Memorial Classic, finishing 2-4.
Southwest Baptist:
  • Southwest Baptist is coached by Tripp Swisher who is entering his fourth season with the Bearcats.
  • The Bearcats went 20-28 overall last season and 12-16 in the GLVC, they finished last season on a three-game losing streak.
  • Shalie Wooden was dangerous on both ends of the ball for Southwest Baptist hitting .284 while driving in 25 batters, the second highest on the team in 2025.
William Jewell:
  • William Jewell is coached by Emma Ryan who is entering her first year with the Cardinals.
  • The Cardinals went 24-26 overall last season and 11-17 in the GLVC, they finished last season with a split double header against Lincoln University of Missouri.
  • William Jewell softball team opened the 2026 season on Friday morning at the Alvy Early Classic, hosted by Arkansas Monticello. The Cardinals dropped their openers, 10-4 to Emporia State and 9-1 to St. Edward's University.
